The Secret of Success

The Secret to Success

We spend enormous amounts of energy trying to change what we do. We set goals, make plans, try to stay motivated, think positively, push ourselves harder, and promise that this time we'll finally follow through and be successful.

But the real key to creating a successful life isn't more doing, more striving, or more motivation.

It's being.

Who you're being changes what you can see, what you believe is possible, and what you create.

When you're being fearful, defeated, approval-seeking, or doubtful, you create from that state. When your being is courage, love, and possibility, you see possibilities everywhere. You think more creatively, speak differently, and take different actions.

So instead of asking, "What should I do?" start asking:

  • Who would I need to be to alter my relationship with fear?
  • Who would I need to be to step powerfully into my future?
  • Who would I need to be to live the most extraordinary life I can live?
  • Who would I need to be to live my best life?
  • Who would I need to be to be fully in love with myself and my life?

The Big Shift

Most of us let life tell us who to be. Fear, our past, other people, and our circumstances determine how we show up. That's living as a victim of life, and most people don't even realize that's the life they're living.

Don't let life decide who you are. There is only one way to stop being a victim and that's to start living as a creator.

A victim asks, "Why is this happening to me?" A creator asks, "What can I create from here?" The shift begins when you choose creator as a way of being.

Choose to live as a powerful creator.

It All Begins with a Decision

Being the creator of your life doesn't mean controlling everything that happens. It means choosing who you are being in relationship to yourself, other people, and whatever life brings you.

If you choose to be love, you stop attacking yourself when you struggle. If you choose to be courage, you stop contracting when fear appears. If you choose to be possibility, you start seeing opportunities everywhere.

Decide who you want to be and begin creating by speaking from that place of being. Commit to it, take action, and keep your word.

Being is the secret to living a successful and fulfilling life.

Create a Great Relationship With Yourself

The quality of your life is determined by who you are being in relationship to your mind, emotions, time, other people, and your mortality. Change those relationships, and you change your life.

Your Relationship With Your Mind

Your mind is constantly thinking, judging, predicting, comparing, remembering, and creating stories about you and the world around you. The problem begins when you mistake those thoughts and stories for reality and allow them to determine who you are and what's possible.

A healthier relationship with your mind means learning to notice what it produces without automatically believing it, obeying it, or allowing it to define you. Your mind can tell you that you're going to fail, and you can still move forward. It can tell you that you aren't capable, and you can recognize the thought without turning it into your identity.

You are the one who can observe what your mind is producing, decide who you're going to be in relationship to it, and choose your actions accordingly. You can't consciously create your life while allowing every thought your mind produces to make your choices for you.

Your Relationship With Your Emotions

Fear, anger, sadness, anxiety, and low moods are part of being human, but your emotional state doesn't have to determine who you're being.

You can feel afraid while being courageous, uncertain while being committed, and disappointed while remaining firmly on your own side. A healthier relationship with your emotions means allowing yourself to experience what you feel without letting those feelings define you or make your choices for you.

You don't have to eliminate fear or manufacture confidence before taking action. You can decide who you're going to be in relationship to what you feel and choose your actions accordingly.

Your Relationship With Time

We spend much of our lives somewhere other than where we are, replaying the past, anticipating the future, or simply lost in thought. Meanwhile, the life we're waiting to live is happening right now.

The present moment is the only place you can create anything. You can't change your life in the past or create it sometime in the future. You can only create it now. It's where you choose who you're going to be and act in alignment with that choice.

Living in the present means learning to be here for whatever arises, both within you and around you, with curiosity, acceptance, and compassion.

The more present you become, the more fully alive you become. You listen more deeply, connect more authentically, appreciate more, and spend less of your life lost in worry about the future or regret about the past.

Your Relationship With Others

Many of us learn to keep the peace, avoid rejection, or earn love by putting other people's needs ahead of our own, hiding what we really feel, or becoming who we think someone else wants us to be.

Healthy relationships don't require you to abandon yourself. You can care deeply about another person while remaining connected to your own needs, feelings, values, and boundaries.

Who you're being affects every relationship you have. Instead of changing yourself to gain someone's approval, you can choose to be honest, loving, courageous, or compassionate while remaining true to yourself. That allows you to create relationships built on mutual respect, acceptance, and genuine connection.

Your Relationship With Mortality

Most of us live as though we have unlimited time. We put things off, stay in relationships or situations that don't support us, and assume there will always be another chance.

Facing your mortality isn't morbid. It's a reminder that your time is limited, and that makes the life you have more precious.

Remembering that you won't be here forever has a way of cutting through the BS. What matters becomes clearer, the opinions of others matter less, and petty worries lose their importance. The things you've been putting off become harder to ignore. You're left with the questions that really matter: Who do I want to be? How do I want to show up? How do I want to be remembered?

Why I Do This Work

For years, I struggled to understand why intelligent, capable people could still be held back by fear, self-doubt, shame, and patterns they couldn't seem to change. I wanted to know why some people moved through difficulty and created successful, meaningful lives while others remained stuck.

That search led me to study psychology and human behavior, work with dozens of coaches and psychologists, attend numerous workshops, and read hundreds of books. But some of the most important lessons came from living with my partner of ten years, a hospice nurse. She came home with stories about people at the end of their lives reflecting on what they valued, what they regretted, and what they wished they had done differently.

Over time, I came to understand how deeply our lives are influenced by who we believe we are. Those beliefs affect how we respond to fear and uncertainty, what we believe is possible, and the choices we make.

But we aren't limited to the identity created by our past. We can choose who we're going to be, commit to that choice, and act in alignment with it. We can also develop a relationship with ourselves that supports our growth instead of undermining it.

That's the foundation of my work: helping people stop living as victims of their thoughts, emotions, past, and circumstances, choose who they want to be, and to become powerful creators.
